You don't mention how many books, or where you are, but we print many memoirs here in Aus. People often create their own base file in Microsoft Word and we (depending on budget) help them create a final PDF for print or polish the design and create cover etc. For a run of black only books of 400 pages, you would expect to pay about $AU20-30 per book for short runs of less than 100, if you go over that you might drop that by 25%.
